Il dolce di San Martino. Patron saint of the town of Paese, Province of Treviso, Italy. St. Martin’s cake.


250 grams of flour
100 grams of sugar
2 ml vanilla extract
140 grams of butter
1 egg yolk
A pinch of salt

Mix above ingredients + roll out dough. Sprinkle some flour if dough is too soft.
Roll out dough using a rolling pin.
If you have a St. Martin shape cake cutter, then use it to cut the dough.
If you don’t have it, then you can always use a cut out cardboard with the shape of St. Martin on his horse. ( you can get some ideas of how to draw and cut the shape from images that you can find in internet).

Preheat oven at 160°C for10 minutes

Bake at 170°C for 12 – not more than 15 minutes!

Decorate with melted dark chocolate(bain-marie) + sprinkle or decorate cake before chocolate becomes hard.
